Jayne Smith Meteorologist

Jayne Smith returned to Michigan to join the 7&4 StormTeam in November of 2006. Born in Pontiac, she then lived for a few years in the nearby town of Highland. With the way Michigan weather is, it came as no surprise to Jayne's parents that "rain" and "snow" were among her first words. Jayne grew up in Guilford, Connecticut and dedicated a lot of her time to dancing. She has had over 15 years of classical ballet training, studied modern dance for over 10 years, and has also dabbled in hip-hop, jazz, tap, swing, and ballroom. By the time high school graduation came around, Jayne decided to turn her focus to another lifelong interest: the weather. Since her grandfather and great-grandfather had been amateur meteorologists, a career in environmental sciences seemed to fit. Jayne graduated with a B.A. in Meteorology from Western Connecticut State University in 2002. During her time in college, she worked as an intern at WTNH-TV in New Haven, Connecticut and at News 12 Westchester in Yonkers, New York. Her first on-air job brought her to Bismarck, North Dakota. From there, she moved on to Colorado Springs, Colorado before coming to Traverse City. In 2006, Jayne became a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist through the American Meteorological Society. When she's not watching the weather or dancing, Jayne enjoys drawing, painting, spending time outdoors, and playing with her four parakeets. She loves to travel and collects postcards from wherever she goes. One day, she hopes to be able to say she's been to all 50 states. She's halfway there!
